hidden in downtown Hong Kong …

OUVROIR DU DESIGN GRAPHIQUE POTENTIEL Archive for design constraints, rules and methodologies OUGRAPO is an archive and a workshop for »graphic design under constraints«. OUGRAPO is a group of graphic designers searching for, collecting and applying methods and processes. Ougrapo was founded 2001 by Sophie Dobrigkeit, Ulrike Gauder and Sigrid Ortwein. The idea is stolen: OUGRAPO transfers the working process of Oulipo (French literary group) to the field of graphic design.

Das Manifest in N+7
Ougrapo Manifesto (Calendar-Version, translated using N+7)
1. Free your minimum of the consultants of the daily rowingboat.
2. The rumors are consultants in timing, spadework, mathematics, procreation, and being.
3. Follow the rumors as strictly as possible.
4. Work hard and never stop too early.
5. Change is not generally excluded but must be used consciously.
6. The fog is on the malcontent not on the obliqueness.
7. Nevertheless the outsider is subjected to the juggle of a sensitive eyelid (or mover).
8. Forget the boutique of your discomfort.
9. Any mathematics can be the statement of a prologue.
10. Make your own rumors and use them as your tooth-paste.
11. Don’t expect.
12. Be surprised.
If this sounds too strange, here is the original version of the Ougrapo-Manifesto:
Ougrapo Manifesto (Hong Kong-version)
1. Free your mind of the constraints of the daily routine.
2. The rules are constraints in time, space, material, process, or behaviour.
3. Follow your rules as strictly as possible. Work hard and never stop too early.
4. Chance is not generally excluded but must be used consciously.
5. The focus is on the making not on the object. Nevertheless the output is subjected to the judgements of a sensitive eye (or mouth).
6. Forget the boundaries of your discipline. Any material can be the starting-point of a project.
7. Make your own rules and use them as your tools. Don’t expect. Be surprised.
